I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually want you to leave him be. That's the same as abandoning him.

I have no intention of abandoning him. I simply don't want to do the wrong thing and hurt him more than I already have, and doing nothing at all seems preferable.

[How do you be a father, exactly? It's not something Kratos is clear on. His own was usually busy, and he valued duty and discipline over everything. Lloyd doesn't want that. He doesn't have any friends he can ask about the matter, either. Anna would have told him what to do, but she's not here...]

[The last part is muttered, but Zelos's hearing would be able to pick it up.]

[...Alright, he knows he's given Kratos the hardest of times about this. They're really working at the same purpose here though, to make Lloyd happy. That's way more important than anything Zelos has against Kratos. He can tell the guy is trying so hard to figure it out and while Zelos really isn't an expert on what a father should do, far from it, he definitely has a more than clear idea of what not to do.]

Be honest. Tell him that. Tell him you made a mistake and you want him as your son but you don't want to hurt him because you-

[A pause. Swallowing. Damnit this is so stupid. Why is he talking about this with Kratos of all people?]

Because you love him, right? I mean, he's your kid.

[And that's it. That's why Zelos hates Kratos so inexplicably much. Not because he's a father who abandoned his son, but because he's one who still loves his son.

He feels vulnerable now, like he revealed something in that, so he can't help needling to cover it up.]

Or y'know, just shove off if you don't. It's not like he needs you; he's doing fine on his own.

[Kratos had been about to hang up, honestly. He's reached the point in the conversation where he's mostly speculating to himself, or so he thought. Zelos starts talking, and he keeps talking. If someone had told him last night that he'd be having a heart-to-heart with Tethe'alla's Chosen, he probably would have thought that they were the one who'd had one too many drinks instead of Lloyd. It's not as if he likes Zelos - in fact, he has an intense dislike of the man that he's become, even if he pities the child that he once was. What he's saying now makes sense, though...

Is it really that simple? If he just tells Lloyd honestly how he feels, will that be enough? It seems almost unfair. It wasn't intentional, but he did abandon him. And yes, he'd had no choice but to behave how he did regarding Mithos, but he knows that the "betrayal" he had acted out hurt Lloyd deeply. He can't be forgiven just with honesty, can he?

Part of him doesn't even want to be forgiven.]

Is that all? It hardly seems adequate after... everything.

[Where would he even start? How do you begin a conversation like that?!]

It's not easy. Hell, you'll be paying for it for the rest of your life, probably, but Lloyd...

[Another pause while he gets his thoughts in order.]

Lloyd forgave me.

[And that pretty much sums it up.]

...he did, didn't he.

[Kratos lets out a quiet sigh. He'll have to work on what to say to Lloyd.]

I will think it over.

[He pauses awkwardly before speaking again, but sounds sincere.]

...Yeah, whatever. It's not a regular thing, I still hate your guts.

[He doesn't sound nearly as vehement as usual though. He clicks off the feed, trying to get his head on straight before going off to take care of his best friend.

That was not a conversation he ever thought he'd have.]

[He wasn't thanking Zelos for helping him. No... he was thanking him for caring enough about Lloyd that he would speak to Kratos even though he clearly loathes him, and about such a sensitive topic at that.

Zelos isn't all that terrible. Maybe.]
